The National Assembly Friday passed a revised bill seeking to designate a day for commemorating the victims of Japan’s wartime sexual slavery.
The revised bill calls for designating August 14th as a day for remembering Japan's wartime sexual slaves in a bid to raise awareness about the issue both at home and abroad.
The bill also expands assistance for survivors and calls on the government to listen to the victims' opinions when it comes up with new policies concerning their rights and obligations.
With the bill’s passage, the legal ground has been laid for providing state subsidies for victims’ funeral services and holding commemorative events.
